On our town service buses, like those of other major cities, we ask for the exact fare to be tendered to speed the loading of buses and reduce accountancy costs. However, if you do not have the exact fare, change can be given in the form of a credit ticket. This credit ticket can be refunded at the Tower Ramparts Enquiry Office, within 28 days of its issue. Credit tickets can also be used to pay for your bus travel. If the ticket is less than the value of your bus fare, simply pay the difference with cash. If the ticket is more than your bus fare, you must be prepared to forego the difference or pay cash and have your credit ticket refunded as previously stated. Besides cash fares, there is a day ticket and a range of weekly and monthly season tickets.

Cheaper Fares from Holbrook Road
Ipswich Buses has reduced the fares it charges on service 1 and 3 from Holbrook and Holywells Road into central Ipswich down to just £1.00.
Concessions
From 1st April 2008 a concessionary bus pass will provide for FREE travel on all public registered local bus services, within England, between 9.30am and 11pm Monday to Friday and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. This is the statutory minimum that must be provided by law, and includes Ipswich Park and Ride. In addition to this, the local district or unitary council in whose area the bus journey starts can choose to extend this concession to allow free travel at all times. The Borough/District Councils of Suffolk have agreed to provide this extra entitlement for journeys that start in Suffolk for Suffolk concessionary bus pass holders only (except in Babergh DC where this extra concession is provided to all holders of an English national concessionary bus pass). Concessionary bus passes can NOT usually be used on express coach services, privately hired buses, tours, excursions or other 'special' bus services and on railway services.
Children
Children under 5 years of age travel free (up to a maximum of four with a fare paying passenger) whilst between their fifth and seventeenth birthday a special flat fare is charged in Ipswich for children in possession of child ID card. This card is also available for students staying in full time education who live in Ipswich up to their nineteenth birthday. This card is available from Ipswich Buses and costs £2.
Additionally the Suffolk Explore bus pass is available from Suffolk County Council which gives a further discount to Explore holders and is available for any young person in Suffolk aged twenty or under. The Explore card is issued free of charge and allows travel on Ipswich Buses services at seventy pence per trip.
Dogs
Dogs on a lead travel at child fare (£1.00), except for working dogs which travel free.

SmartCard
We have a very "smart" card which we have obviously called our SmartCard.
Essentially we can magnetically attach any offers to the card. You can give us cash or cheques or credit cards and we can attach credit of your choosing to the card. The card can then be used to pay on any of our buses AND will give you a warning when the credit begins to run low.
