Suffolk New College and Ipswich Buses are delighted to be working in partnership to develop training material to support Ipswich Buses drivers through their NVQ level 2 in Passenger Carrying Vehicle Driving.

The NVQ, which contains work observation units including Health & Safety, Customer Service, Driver Standards and work based knowledge, enhances the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) scheme for public carrying vehicle (PCV) drivers. The CPC scheme, which is being developed as a requirement of EU legislation which comes into effect in September 2008, is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional PCV drivers throughout their working life.

Candidates taking the NVQ are supported by an interactive workbook which was jointly developed by Suffolk New College and Ipswich Buses and the accompanying DVD was filmed by students from the college's Media department as part of their final year project.

Tony Moss, Development & Training Manager at Ipswich Buses, said "I am pleased to work with Suffolk New College and together we hope to offer the fully funded NVQ qualification to other operators in the area."
Staff from Suffolk New College and Ipswich Buses, including college Principal, Dave Muller and Ipswich Buses MD Malcolm Robson, recently attended an event to mark the formal signing of the partnership.

Ipswich Buses were the 39th registered JAUPT centre to deliver the new Drivers CPC with a course registered for the September start date, they are also working with the Institute of Advanced Motorist (PCV) with their own in house assessors, in addition to the driving school offering PCV training to local operators or private individuals.
