The Electric Bus is Back
After considerable modification and re engineering the Ipswich Buses hybrid diesel electric midi bus is now back on the streets of Ipswich operating service 38, the Ipswich Town Centre shuttle sponsored by Suffolk County Council.
This bus meets and beats all the latest emission standards and could be the first phase in the move to a cleaner, greener fleet of buses for Ipswich Town Centre playing their role in reducing pollution.
Managing Director of Ipswich Buses Malcolm Robson states:-
“We are delighted that after much hard work and discussions with Traction Technology based in West Sussex we have been able to re engineer this vehicle so that it can return to the streets of Ipswich.
Our company strongly believes that the future lies with less polluting vehicles and will be working hard to improve reliability with the bus to ensure that we can look to acquire more of these vehicles in the future”.
James Rosson, Commercial Manager of Traction Technology, who was recently involved in a management led buyout of the former company ENECO explains that this is a third type of a vehicle in the country operating under the hybrid principles produced by his company which is based on a battery pack charged through the vehicle momentum and a VW 1.9 TDI engine.
