IPSWICH BUSES BIDS FOR GREENER FLEET
Ipswich Buses, the locally owned bus Company operating in and around Ipswich, has made a bid for two hybrid single deck buses under the Government’s Green Bus Fund initiative.
The Green Bus Fund has a total of £30 million to be distributed to successful bidders later in 2009/early 2010, to promote the use of vehicles powered by alternative sources other than diesel.
Managing Director of Ipswich Buses Malcolm Robson states:
“Our Company are keen to be involved in the development of cleaner, greener buses. Unfortunately our past experiences with buses powered by CNG and hybrid sources have not been successful, but we would hope that the future generations of newer vehicles can be as reliable as the traditional diesel powered bus.
We have made bids for two single deck buses to be used in and around Ipswich. If successful, orders for these vehicles should be placed in March 2010 for delivery in the summer of the next year”.
