Partnership to Boost Bus Service
Buses on a major Ipswich route are being increased to one every 10 minutes
from next month because they are so popular.
Ipswich Buses services No. 1 and No. 3, which run to and from Ravenswood and the town centre and railway station, started out as an hourly service but
now the Ravenswood community has grown more buses are needed.
Ipswich Borough Council, working with the developers of Ransomes Europark, has secured funding for the more frequent service. Malcolm Robson, Managing Director of Ipswich Buses, said: "This proves that residents and shoppers like travelling on buses if we can offer them the right service. Well, we have increased the number of buses from four and hour to six an hour from Monday 4th December and routed the buses through Ransomes Europark to provide a direct service to the new DSA driving test centre and Mackro's.
More customers are using the service year on year and that is good for us,
the people of Ipswich and the environment."
Services 1 and 3, formerly numbered as services 32 and 33, began as
financially supported services serving the new residential development of
Ravenswood by Ipswich Borough Council operated by Ipswich Buses as an hourly service, and in stages, as the number of residential units has increased the bus service frequency has increased to this new service of every ten minutes.
Ipswich Borough Council also financially supports the evening and Sunday
network on service 1.
Usage of bus services from the Ravenswood development is higher than one
would have expected from a residential development of this type, which is
led to a significant year on year passenger growth on this service and in
addition has led to more than houses than had originally been anticipated
being granted permission for construction on the Ravenswood development.
