Ravenswood Bus Service Attracts National Pride

Bus services to the Ravenswood residential development in South East Ipswich provided by Ipswich Buses have recently featured in two national schemes praising bus services and the initiatives undertaken by bus operators in partnership with Local Authorities to promote bus usage.

At the UK Bus Awards ceremony services to Ravenswood operated by Ipswich Buses, the Council owned bus company, was highly commended under “The Winning New Customers Award” sponsored by the Department of Transport.

The judges at the UK Bus Awards commented that:
“The impressive hard work put into this scheme by Ipswich Buses and their partners, the Borough Council, Suffolk County Council and the developers resulted in the development that generated more buses and much less car traffic that had been predicted.  The judges felt that there were clear and easy lessons to be learnt from this project by operators and authorities around the country”.

The services also featured in the recent Confederation of Passenger Transport publication “Moving Forward New Opportunities New Passengers”, which outlines bus services around the UK which have attracted more users at times when car ownership has continued to grow and congestion continues to choke our roads.
The CPT document outlines how the bus services to Ravenswood have shown a 21% growth with recent increases in frequency and explains that the service to Ravenswood

“show a great example of how public transport should link with residential planning”.

Managing Director of Ipswich Buses Malcolm Robson states:
“In partnership with Ipswich Borough Council, Suffolk County Council and Bellway Homes we have developed a high frequency, high quality bus service from Ravenswood operating every ten minutes with financial support for the evening and Sunday network through which has seen the number of passengers using buses far exceed the expectations for a residential development of the size of Ravenswood.

We are delighted that this service has gained national recognition for the hard work from all our partners and staff in developing this service and look forward to further developments of the service as the Ravenswood development continues to grow.
