Free Bus Passes for House Purchasers

THE environmentally-friendly credentials of Ipswich’s largest new homes development are being further enhanced with an offer of free bus travel.

Bellway, which is developing the maturing new community on the eastern outskirts of town, has teamed up with Ipswich Buses to offer purchasers on its soon-to-be released new Downham Chase II phase free bus travel for a month.

A month’s worth of Green Saver 7 tickets will be given to each purchaser of the 62 new homes being built as part of Downham Chase II.

Bellway’s Sales and Marketing Director, Karen Coulson, said: “From the very outset at Ravenswood, Bellway and Ipswich Council have encouraged people to use public transport whenever possible and leave the car at home. This initiative has been very successful, helped by a subsidy part-paid by Bellway in the early days.

“We believe if we can encourage new purchasers to use buses from day one, it will become habit-forming which has to be good for the environment as we look to try and cut back on car use.”

Malcolm Robson, Managing Director of Ipswich Buses, added: “Ravenswood has gained national recognition for the level of bus usage generated by a residential development of this size. This success reflects the close working relationship between Bellway, Ipswich Council and our company.

“In the past year we have seen usage of bus services from Ravenswood increase by just over 50 per cent. This new initiative is a further sign that we are all working to increase people’s use of buses whilst reducing car traffic in the area.”

Ravenswood has twice in the past three years been the winner of a National Green Apple Environment Award, organised by the leading national charity, The Green Organisation. And it also has a sought-after ‘good’ eco homes rating from the Building Research Establishment.
