  • What are the fares and prices for tickets?

  • New Bus numbers/services:

    Service 19 has been replaced by the new service 7. Please note this new service 7 will not stop at Stratford Road and the Anglia Retail Park

  • Where is the X5 service?

    The X5 service has been renamed to Route 5. (Effective from 18th Feb 2018)

  • What bus... goes to...

    Hospital – Route 5 (Previously X5) is the quickest bus to the hospital from Tower Ramparts.

    Copdock Tesco – Service 13 is the quickest bus from Tower Ramparts.

  • How do Smartcards work?

    Smartcards are pre-paid cards available on routes 20 and under that can be used to save money when you are planning on making multiple journeys.

    You can get your Smartcard from our Enquiry Office in Tower Ramparts.

    To add credit to your Smartcard pay in our office, or for 7 day, 28 day and 10 trips you are also able to top-up using cash on the bus.

    When you get on the bus place your Smartcard on the ticket machine plate to register your fare purchase.

  • Aged 16 – 19?

    Good news – you can still get our great value child fare, to get this discount you will need to have photo ID to show the driver. Please remember that we only accept either the Buses ID card or an Endeavour card as valid forms of ID.

    The driver has the right to refuse travel and ask for an adult fare to be paid if you do not show the correct form of ID when asked.

    Card & offer expires on 20th birthday.

  • What age does my child have to start paying on this bus?

    When your child turns 5 years of age.

  • Can I bring my dog/pet on the bus?

    There is no fare for guide dogs or well behaved dogs on leads.

    Some other pets are permitted to travel on our buses, as long as the following conditions are met:

    At all times the dog is accompanied, on a short lead and kept under proper control; the dog is not deemed by the driver to be ‘dangerously out of control’, defined by the law as injuring a person or behaving in a way that makes a person worried it might injure them; is not a ‘banned’ breed of dog as defined by the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

    15.2 Only one dog is permitted on either the lower or upper deck of a bus at any one time, except for the purpose of boarding or alighting the bus, and must not be allowed to sit on the seats at any time.

    15.3 Guide dogs/assistance and working dogs accompanying registered disabled persons will be carried free of charge. Guide and Assistance dogs are identifiable by their coloured coat or harness (Guide Dogs may have their harness removed prior to boarding services for the dog’s safety). All other dogs will be charged a standard fare in accordance with our published faretables.

    15.4 Dogs brought onto the bus will be the responsibility of the person accompanying the dog who will be liable for any damage, loss or injury arising from its presence on the bus.

    15.5 Birds in cages, cats and other small animals carried in a passenger’s lap will be allowed to travel free of charge.

  • Where do I get my bus from?

  • What time does the family ticket start? How much does it cost?

    Family tickets are valid all day every day with no time restrictions.

    All day family tickets are only £5 in Town or £15 across the town and country network.

    They are valid for 2 adults and upto 3 children or 1 adult and upto 4 children.

  • What bus can I use my Smartcard on?

    You can use your smartcard on all town services and bus stops.

  • I have left my bag on the bus, where is the lost and found?

    Any items left on the bus will be stored at our Enquiry Office at Tower Ramparts. To reclaim please either visit us in our offices or contact us on 0800 919390 during office hours.

  • Can I smoke?

    To provide a clean, healthy and safe environment for all customers and to comply with the law Ipswich Buses operates a No Smoking policy on it’s vehicles.

    Electronic “vaporizing” devices are also not permitted.

  • Can I vape on the bus?

    To provide a clean, healthy and safe environment for all customers and to comply with the law Ipswich Buses operates a No Smoking policy on all our vehicles, including electronic “vaporizing” devices.

  • Can I take food on the bus?

    Ideally, we would prefer you not to eat or drink on the bus, as it can cause a mess. Hot food, or food with a strong smell, is only allowed on board if fully wrapped.

  • Can I take paint onto a bus?

    Our passengers are welcome to carry liquids/paints as long as it is in a sealed container placed within another bag.

  • Why are we removing credit vouchers?

    We want to make boarding the bus as quick and easy as possible.

    By applying an exact fare policy we hope that this will improve boarding time for all passengers. By removing credit vouchers we will also use fewer ticket rolls – meaning we will reduce our paper waste and help the environment.

  • Why do you not give cash refunds on your Town services?

    For the safety of our drivers and to improve boarding times for our passengers, we will no longer give out cash refunds.

  • Can I get my money back from my credit voucher(s) after the 28th April 2019?

    No, you will not be able to redeem any credit vouchers back in the Enquiry Office, or on any of our services, after the 28th April 2019.

  • Will the driver give out change on the bus?

    No, the drivers will not give out any cash refunds or credits vouchers if you pay too much for your fare on the Town buses on services 1 to 16 from the 31st March 2019

  • Can I still use cash on the bus?

    Yes, you can still use cash on the bus. We do ask that you use the exact fare as no cash refunds or credit vouchers will be issued. For example, if your fare is £1.60, and you put £2.00 into the hopper you will not receive a 40p cash refund or a 40p credit voucher.

  • What other ways can I pay for my fare?

    We offer great value products to make travelling on our buses quicker and easier. Did you know that you can pay for your single, transfer, returns, day and family tickets with contactless payment on board all our buses?

    For passengers that don’t use our buses as frequently, we offer a 10 -trip smartcard card which has no expiry date – each time you do a journey it will take a trip off. For our more frequent passengers we offer, 7-day, 28-day, 6-months and annual passes, which allows you to travel on an unlimited basis for the selected period of time.
