Trainee & Qualified Bus Drivers Required 

We are currently looking for PCV drivers to join our team.

Our drivers provide safe and reliable passenger journeys across the borough of Ipswich and into the towns of Colchester / Framlingham giving our valued customers the best quality travel experience through their friendly knowledgeable and helpful approach.

It's not just local bus drivers that we are seeking, we also require school and coach drivers for school contracts and some local private hire work.  

Our drivers sign on at our garage on Constantine Road or in Central Ipswich Tower Ramparts bus station of which both have rest room facilities.  Our traffic control office is located in our offices at Tower Ramparts Bus Station. 

Do I need bus driving experience to apply?

A full licence and CPC card is preferred, however, No! You don't need previous PCV driving experience to become a bus driver at Ipswich Buses, thanks to our in-house Training Academy, where full training is provided, free of charge in return for committing to join our company. 

We'll teach you how to drive a bus (or a coach if required), put you through your bus driving test, whilst also covering accessibility and customer service training. Of course, ongoing training is provided to you during your employment with us.

Driving experience

A minimum of 12 months car driving experience is need, with a maximum of 6 points on your driving licence. Regrettably we are unable to accept applications form people who have a DD10, DG10, IN10 or any other ban showing on their licence. 

Qualified drivers

If you are qualified PCV driver but don't have a valid CPC then we can help you obtain this. 

Do I need to work full time?

Most bus drivers work full time, but we also have some other options available.  We have a number of part time vacancies, and we also have term-time, annualised and casual vacancies.  When you apply, tell us what hours you'd prefer, and we can discuss the options with you at interview.

 

What are the pay and benefits like?

Once you are fully trained or if you are already qualified, earn up to £13.50 per hour for town route driving.  Earn up to £12.22 per hour for country and school route driving where there are no late, Sunday or Bank Holiday shifts.  Opportunities are also available to earn more by working extra hours.
